An interesting fact: about 55% of food consumed is originated from the grain crops. Perhaps that is why wheat growing can be placed as the largest agricultural segment providing food security in Central Asia. In this connection, and in the light of the observed and expected consequences of climate change, one of the important emerging questions is - how to ensure further sustainable development of this sector?
Dr. Ram Sharma, from International center for agricultural research in dry areas (ICARDA), talks about low-cost and high-yield technologies for sustainable wheat cultivation in Central Asia. His review provides information on climate change impacts on wheat cultivation, some agronomic practices, use of new seed varieties, plant protection methods, sustainable harvest and post-harvest practices.
