Experts from Central Asian countries got acquainted with the methods of seasonal climate forecasts

The 15th North-Eurasian Climate Outlook Forum took place 6-8 November 2018 in Moscow, with a view to discuss the current problems of monitoring and forecasting climate variability, as well as to issue a consensus forecast for the winter of 2018/2019. To promote the development and application of methods and techniques for seasonal climate prediction in the region, the project CAMP4ASB supported participation in the Forum experts from the hydrometeorological agencies of the Central Asian countries.

During the Forum, experts of Hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries studied the development of long-term forecasting technologies, development of monthly and seasonal forecasts based on climate models, discussion of a differentiated methods for monitoring meteorological conditions of mountain regions of Eurasia, modeling of the seasonal climate.

Consultant of the CAMP4ASB project, Mr. Abror Gafurov shared experience assessing snowpack to predict seasonal water availability in Central Asia with use of the MODSNOW-Tool. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to assist in promoting the use of the tool for seasonal and on a more operative forecasts for water availability of the rivers of Central Asia.
