Dear friends, we continue to tell you about the speakers who will make a speech at the Central Asian Conference on Climate Change.
Abror Gafurov - holder of a Doctoral degree in hydrology and geohydrology. His report within the framework of the Conference will focus on the climate change impact on hydrology in Central Asia. Dr. Gafurov is a hydrologist with a focus on mountain hydrology. Currently he coordinates the CAWa project (Regional Research Network "Central Asian Water"). His recent research work is devoted to the climate change impact assessment on water resources in Central Asia. In addition to giving lectures at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Abror is a research scientist at the Department of Hydrology, GFZ Potsdam since 2009 and has worked as the head of the Irrigation and Drainage Unit in the Amu-Zang Irrigation Rehabilitation Project under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Kahramon Jumaboev has 15 years of experience in water management, particularly in areas where the use of irrigation water is associated with high energy consumption. The subject of his report will be the use of water and energy-saving technologies to increase the efficiency of water and energy use within the framework of the International Water Management Institute (IWRMI) study. Mr. Kahramon Jumaboev is a Senior Research Officer at the IWRMI. Currently, he is leading the project Mitigating the Competition for Water in Amu Darya River Basin by Improving Water and Energy Use Efficiency.
He has contributed more than 10 researches on water resources management in Central Asia. Mr. Djumaboev has also authored and co-authored more than 20 research papers in international and national journals.
In Session 4 on global sources and local financing mechanisms for climate change adaptation initiatives, Dr. Otto Simonette will deliver a report on "South-South cooperation as a means of mobilizing climate investments". Otto Simonett is co-founder and Executive Director of Zoï Environment Network in Geneva, Switzerland. More than 30 years of international experience with the United Nations Environment Program in the field of environmental assessment, information management and capacity building makes it possible to specialize in making understandable the complex scientific and environmental issues to broader public. Otto Simonett holds his Ph.D. from Zurich University in the field of Geography. He has co-authored a large number of publications, maps aiming at "popularizing" global and regional environmental issues.
