Brief biographies of CAREC events’ speakers, November 25-26, 2020

On November 25-26, 2020, two online seminars will be held, organized by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), with the participation of representatives of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is a key source of scientific knowledge on climate change. We present the speakers of these events representing the IPCC:

fa22ebdaa6223b6deced39ad0371625d.pngJonathan Lynn is the Head of Communications and Media Relations at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Before joining the IPCC in November 2011, he worked as a foreign correspondent and editor for Reuters news agency for 32 years, reporting from over 30 countries around the world.

Jonathan has a master’s degree from Cambridge University, where he studied modern languages at Clare College. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

6b8a63d4ad7f5f6062792d5b38618777.pngDr. Alisher Mirzabaev is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Development Research (CDR), University of Bonn. Prior to joining CIR, he was an Economist at the International Center for Agricultural Research (ICARDA). Dr. Mirzabaev will be the Coordinating Lead Author of the Chapter on Desertification of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land Use. He is currently co-chairing the cross-chapter document “Deserts, semi-desert areas and desertification”, which is being prepared under Working Group II.

Dr. Mirzabaev has been a lead researcher on several international projects with both global and regional focus on Africa and Asia. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Bonn, Germany. His research interests include impacts to change, adaptation to climate change, land degradation economics and water-energy-food nexus.

d4fef377ba2243ba60ed7a9e349c5bc5.pngOksana Nikolayevna Lipka, Ph.D. in Geography, Leading Researcher of the Department for the Study of the Interaction of the Atmosphere and Natural Land Systems at the at the Yu. A. Izrael Institute of Global Climate and Ecology (Russia), Corresponding Member of the Russian Ecological Academy.

Main activities: conducting climate research, developing and implementing projects to adapt to climate change in the Russian Federation and Central Asian countries.

Since 2018, Ms Lipka has been the lead author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report, Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, Vulnerability).

In 2016-2018 she was the lead author of the regional report for the Europe and Central Asia region of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)).

In 2011-2019, she worked as coordinator of the Climate and Energy Program at WWF Russia.

Education: Faculty of Geography, Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov, biogeographer, specialist in ecosystem dynamics.
