September the 8th – civil mobilisation « Rise for Climate»

16 August 2018

12 – 14 September -in San Francisco will take place one of the most important climatic events of the year - Global Climate Action Summit.

At the summit, representatives of various countries will discuss global measures to achieve the main goal of the Paris Agreement: retention of global temperature growth at the level of 1.5-2 degrees. This event represents a unique opportunity to encourage the authorities to take on additional liabilities to protect the climate.

Exactly for this reason the summit will also be preceded by another event-the global mobilization for climate protection - Rise for Climate. The action will begin on September 8 and will take place in 5 continents. "We are the only ones who can solve the climate crisis, and we should not wait any longer"- is the motto of the upcoming event. The goal of mobilization is to demonstrate the need to take more active measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation. Mobilization participants set themselves the mission of urging their governments to reduce the level of greenhouse gases and accelerate the transition to 100% of renewable energy as soon as possible. Representatives of human rights, religious, youth and trade union groups will take part in this action.

Among the examples of already planned actions, it is worth to make a noteof the event organized by the ecological organization "Little Earth" from Tajikistan. Its participants are planning to organize a bike race using thematic equipment (T-shirts, baseball caps and other attributes with the inscription Rise for Climate).

Another interesting example is the forum for Ukraine's climate activists - Powers Shift 2018: Invision the future (Energy of Changes). The forum will be proceed in Kiev, September 7-9, and will bring together 500 participants from Ukraine and other countries. Adaptation measures will be discussed, within the framework of the event, which will need to be assumed in the country until 2050. The forum will discuss such issues as transformation of personal consumption, inclusion and the inclusion of gender equality in green projects, etc.

Moreover, there will be marches for the climate in two largest cities of Georgia, Tbilisi and Kutaisi. The task of these marches is to call upon the authorities to switch to clean energy by 2050. In total, more than 400 participants will take part in the event.

And these are just a few examples of how citizens of different countries can show their civic stance and take part in a global mobilization - Rise for climate. Each of us is able to make a contributionto climate protection. To do this, go to the site of riseforclimate.org and register your organization to participate in the global mobilization.
