Climate adaptation and mitigation measures should take into account gender issues, to prevent vulnerability of women and ensure equality in rights and opportunities. To this end, adaptation programs have to be gender-sensitive: decisions must take into account difference in needs of men and women, and consequently difference in their vulnerabilities and experience.
This is a key message from Diana Ismailova, gender coordinator Oxfam GB, Tajikistan - "Gender issues in climate change". Her presentation provides information on the differences in the response of men and women to climate change, how an equitable distribution of gender roles in the family and society can enhance or reduce vulnerability of women.
