The Fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2021) will be held on July 26-27, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be conducted as a mix of in-person and virtual meetings.
The objective of the conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue, information and knowledge exchange in order to support climate-resilient evidence-based decision-making systems, as well as to explore the possibilities to ensure the synergy in climate projects implementation between international finance organizations and the development agencies in Central Asia.
A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Olzhas Agabekov, a director of the Climate Policy and Green Technologies Department of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He will be a speaker at the CACCC-2021 thematic session dedicated to сlimate policy and the role of civil society.
Olzhas Agabekov is a director of the Climate Policy and Green Technologies Department of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Prior to his current position, Olzhas Agabekov also worked for the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan; from 2016 to 2017, he was Deputy Director of the Climate Change Department, in 2017, he became Director of the Climate Change Department;
About his previous professional background:
From 2008 to 2009, Olzhas Agabekov was the head of the public procurement department of Almaty Power Plant, JSC;
Later in 2009, he became an assistant to the President of the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company, KEGOC, JSC;
In 2010, he held the position of an acting chief specialist at the Mayor's Office of the Zhambyl Region;
From 2011 to 2014, he worked as an assistant to the mayor of the Zhambyl region;
From 2014 to 2016, he was a deputy head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Industrial-Innovative Development of the Akimat of the Zhambyl Region;
We should also note the state and international awards of Olzhas Agabekov, which include the following medals: "Eren enbegi Ashin" (2007), "Astananyk 10 zhyldygy" (2008).
