Torsten Brezina - speaker of CACCC-2021

The Fourth Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2021) will be held on July 26-27, 2021, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference will be conducted as a mix of in-person and virtual meetings.

The objective of the conference is to strengthen the regional dialogue, information and knowledge exchange in order to support climate-resilient evidence-based decision-making systems, as well as to explore the possibilities to ensure the synergy in climate projects implementation between international finance organizations and the development agencies in Central Asia.

 A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Torsten Brezina, a cluster coordinator at GIZ. He will be a speaker at a thematic session of CACCC-2021 dedicated to climate financing.


Speaker

Starting from 2017, Mr. Torsten is a Cluster Coordinator Regional Programmes in Central Asia.

Before the appointment as a Cluster Coordinator Regional Programmes in Central Asia, he worked in the following positions:

  • August 2017 - December 2018: Program director for Sustainable and Climate Sensitive Land Use for Economic Development in Central Asia

  • August 2014 – July 2017: Country Director, Head of GIZ Programmes in Uzbekistan

  • August 2009 – July 2014: GIZ Programme Director «Support of German Minorities in Russian Federation; Director of the Russian – German House in Moscow, Russia

  • January 2007 – July 2009: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, Responsible person for implementing of programmes «HIV/AID's prevention in Eastern Europe» and «Healthcare reform with the accent on HIV/AID's prevention in Ukraine»

  • January 2004 – Dec. 2006: GTZ, Director of an educational center in the Russian – German House in Moscow

  • June 2001 – Dec. 2006: GTZ, Programme Coordinator «Support of German Minorities in former Soviet Union's Countries         

  • March 2000 – June 2001: djo – German Youth in Europe, Federal Union, Bonn, Executive Director

  • March 1999 – March 2000: Technical University of Dresden Research officer of EU project «INCO-Copernicus», analysis of attitude to drugs among youth in Ukraine, Spain, Germany, and Russia.

­­­­­­­As for his academic achievements, he completed the «Sociologist and pedagogue» program with Technical University of Dresden, Germany, and «Education for adults» program with University named after Carl Francensa, Graz.
