The Third Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC 2020) will be held online on October 19-23, 2020. The objective of the conference is to strengthen a regional dialogue on climate change and sustainable development through the information and knowledge exchange in Central Asia.    A series of our publications will be dedicated to the speakers and moderators of the upcoming event. And, today, we would like to introduce you to Zhanna Babagaliyeva. She will moderate the thematic session “Science and research perspectives on climate change in times of pandemic” of the second day of the CACCC 2020 on October 20, 2020.

Moderator


Zhanna Babagaliyeva - Specialist at the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Programme at the Regional Environment Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). She graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University (Bachelor in Ecology and Environmental Management) and Central European University (Master of Science in Environmental Sciences and Policy).

Zhanna began her career designing different environmental projects for oil companies. As a member of the verification team for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in Kazakhstan, she also gained experience in the verification of GHG emission reports.

At CAREC, Zhanna was working within the projects as Pathways to Resilience in Semi-Arid Economies (PRISE) and Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB).

For the PRISE project, she coordinated the project implementation, developing the research methodology on migration, remittances and climate resilience in Tajikistan, designing maps for pilot zones and analytical papers based on the project research outcomes.

For the CAMP4ASB project, she coordinated the adaptation of new methodologies and tools (models) to improve climate, hydrological and agrometeorological forecasting in the region and integrate adapted tools into the operational works of hydrometeorological services and universities curricular in the region of Central Asia.
